Union Red Cross National Societies Contribution
The First United Nations Global Road Safety Week was called
for in the October 2005 United Nations General Assembly resolution
A/60/5 on Improving global road safety. The resolution invites
the United Nations Regional Commissions and the World Health
Organization (WHO) to jointly organize the Week.
The main objectives of this First United Nations Global Road
Safety Week 2007:

Raise awareness about the societal impact of road traffic
injuries, highlighting the risks for young road users.
- Promote
action around key factors which have a major impact on preventing
road traffic injuries: helmets, seat-belts, drink driving,
speeding and infrastructure.

Red
Cross actions across Europe
EU Red Cross National Societies have implemented a multitude
of activities aiming at:
- increasing
awareness, knowledge and respect of road safety rules and
behaviours during First Global United Nations Road Safety
Week 23-29 April 2007
- sharing
best practice in road safety and first aid education throughout
Europe
- producing
(on-line) a "road safety and first aid awareness raising
resource pack"
All
activities dedicated to First UN Global Road Safety Week are
part of the European Red Cross Road Safety Campaign 2007/2008
– supported by the European Commission, Toyota Motor Europe
and TomTom.
